Burlesque 101

This 6 week intensive course is created with aspiring performers in mind. Beginning with the history of the art, the course will walk you through all the steps to not only develop your first professional act but also prepare you for a successful career in burlesque. Ending with your graduation show as your first professional performance you will reap the benefits of your new education by experiencing the thrill of stage performance!

During the 6 weeks we will cover: Burlesque History, Burlesque Revival, Character Development, Costume Creations, Magic Movements & Bringing it all together. In those classes you will be coached and mentored through the process of developing your own act. Plus, you will have a chance to perform your act in a small setting (your ‘Burlesque Salon’ experience) & after the course ends there will be a chance to take your new skills out on the town in a “Graduation Glory” performance!

Wear comfy clothes + heels and further costuming info will be provided in class. All students in Burlesque 101 receive a 15% discount on Curio Shop items as well as additional classes.

Drop-in Class Descriptions

Burlesque 101 – 2 hour

Learn the art of the tease in 2 hours; history, revival, burlesque moves, character development costuming, and more!  You will even learn your very first burlesque routine!  Get ready to pack your mind and move your body!  Sexy and SMART!

What to bring:

• Comfortable heels you can move in.

• Tight-fitting dance clothes (i.e. a leotard and tights, leggings and a tank top, etc.) so the instructor can observe and correct the positioning of your body with ease.
• A button down shirt.
• Please note that hair should be secured away from the face and neck and no dangling jewelry will be permitted.

Boas and gloves will be provided.

How To Strip For Your Lover

This one hour class teaches you how to set the scene for an evening of naughty fun.  It includes sexy dance moves, stripping techniques to build confidence, costuming, music selection, and tips for planning an unforgettable night.  I supply the all the boas, satin gloves and other fun trinkets.  The 2 hour  class even includes learning an entire routine!  There is no nudity but we do learn how to have naughty fun! No nudity but bring high heels to learn how to strut your stuff!

Whether you are looking for beauty tricks for your everyday lifestyle, wanting to learn tricks for an upcoming big event or looking for character development for stage this is the class for you! You’ll learn the basics of make-up, how to create vintage/character looks, and MORE!

Learn the tricks of the trade to twirling those titillating tassels in every direction! Size and shape is no issue! Bring your nipples and I’ll show you how to twirl….Men and women alike!

Fan Dancing Fan-omenon
Gas cans, file folders, trash can lids, serving trays…what do they all have in common?
Incorporate another level of tease to heighten your performance! Learn the tricks of the trade with fan dancing to add dimension to your performance and dance like a pro!

Burlesque Hip-Hop Fusion

Students will learn how to incorporate elements of hip-hop dance within the context of the sensual allure of the striptease. The class will participate in a warm-up exercise focused on basic jazz and hip-hop technique and then learn a short combination to a popular song. No nudity is required for this class.

What to bring:
• Jazz sneakers, if available (any split-sole street sneaker will also do, but please bring something to wipe down the bottoms so as not to damage or soil the dance floor. Jazz shoes or ballet shoes are also acceptable. No heels!)
• Tight-fitting dance clothes (i.e. a leotard and tights, leggings and a tank top, etc.) so the instructor can observe and correct the positioning of your body with ease.
• A button down shirt or corset.
• A short, somewhat tight fitting skirt that is easily removed
• Leg warmers (if you’ve got them) that can be easily removed over shoes. A few extra pairs will be available.
• A back-closure bra with straps.
• A fun pair of panties that make you feel confident and sexy
• A pair of gloves, any type.
• A sturdy hat (a baseball cap, top hat or fedora….anything with a solid structure is fine).
• Please note that hair should be secured away from the face and neck and no dangling jewelry will be permitted.

Finding Your Character

Learn how to connect with your audience through facial expression and movement.  You will also learn how to make an entrance to capture attention.  This class is full of tips for a ll performers new and seasoned to find your personality and bring it to life!  This class is jam-packed full of info so bring a pen and paper for note-taking.
